Go Rucking

Why not make walking harder?
Go Rucking

My wife and I go on walks all the time.

I want to live to see my great-grandkids, so I wanted to increase my cardio (and strength) load on these walks.

Enter rucking.

I first heard about it in Michael Easter's book The Comfort Crisis, and then all the bro science guys started talking about it (i.e. Easter on Huberman). I'd always loved hiking with a pack, so I figured I'd give rucking a go.

I remembered I'd seen GORUCK advertised at a Savage Race. (This is not an affiliate post.)

I got their plate vest and put a 20LB plate in the front and a 30LB plate in the back.

Now, when we go on walks, it's like my 7-year-old is riding on my shoulders the whole time. Just less wriggly.

Over the past few years I've bought more of their stuff - sandbags for my girls' training and a belt bag (aka fanny pack). My cousin John has worn their shoes for a few years now and swears by 'em.

Everything I've bought from them is massively overbuilt.

They've got a quick rundown of the why and how of rucking here.

You don't need their gear to do it.

A gallon of water weights 8.34 pounds. Save a couple milk jugs with screw-on caps, fill 'em up with water and put 'em in your backpack, and go.

What are you weighting for? Heheh.
